Week 2

Week two seems to be going well, I feel that with the help of the other legal assistants in the office that I am learning a lot and things are slowly starting to make more sense.  I am truly grateful for all their help.  Tomorrow both lawyers are going to be out of the office, but I sure have more then enough work to keep me busy all day.  I hope that this will also mean that I will get a lot done with few interruptions. :)   Also tomorrow will be my first pay day, I’m looking forward to that!

I’m still tired and I’m still sick with a sinus problem but it will get better soon I hope.  I’m tired of not sleeping well, and not being able to breath.  I guess it just means that things can only get better.

Tomorrow evening Nikkole and I will be going to Auntie Krista’s for a sleep over that will involve some good movies and some of Krista’s fabulos home made pizza.  We are both really looking forward to it.  On Saturday Mike and the boys are going to see MXM at the MTS centre, that should be a great time for them for sure!  Looks like its going to be a great weekend for everyone!

Done, finally

The main HQ post office is running.  The user volume has been restored.  The login scripts have been fixed.

Lisa is coming to pick me up.  I’m going home soon.  Supposedly we’re getting pizza from management in the near future.

All in all, it wasn’t too bad for R and I.  Certainly not as bad as for J and D who just went home not long ago to sleep for the first time in probably about 36 hours or more.

Yep, working late

It’s almost as if my shift is just beginning.

After spending much of today trying to get our mail system running, we were successful in getting two of our post offices up and working.  Our main post office, however, was inaccessible.  Further investigation showed that none of the user databases were restored, or at least on the volume.  I’m now working on restoring all of this data, and after that comes firing up the HQ post office.  Fingers crossed that there won’t be trouble.  Once that’s done comes the restoration of the user data.

And so “begins” my long day.

It’s going to be a long day…

So I roll in to work this morning, pretty good mood, about 10 minutes early, surprisingly full of energy.  Up the elevator, into my office I stroll.  I’m met by two co-workers huddled over a terminal and I see a sheet of paper on my keyboard.  J looks over to me, says “Hi” in a surprisingly energetic voice, then holds out part of his shirt and asks “Does this look familiar?”

He’s wearing the same shirt as yesterday.

Yesterday evening, J and a contractor were going to be upgrading the firmware on our SAN controllers.

Sigh…

Turns out, the firmware upgrade went well, everything looked ok, right up until they brought up the nodes on our NetWare Cluster 1.  It couldn’t see any of its volumes on the SAN.  Needless to say, we’re currently restoring everything from tape backup, and have lost a day or so worth of data.  The data loss isn’t a big deal, but the restore is going to take a lot of time, and of course management wants a timeline.  All I can think is “It’ll be ready when it’s done”, a la iD Software circa Quake 1.  Surprisingly enough, our NetWare Cluster 2 (not even close to Mission Critical) is just fine, but needs a reboot because we’ve lost access to the webserver running on it (for some reason, nobody has ever been able to fix that problem without rebooting both nodes).  I also tried convincing J to just fill me and R in on what needs to be done so he can go to the first aid room and try to get a couple hours sleep while the tape restores run, but I doubt he’ll bother.  I’d probably be the same way though.

It’s funny… instead of being cluster fucked, we’ve got a fucked cluster.

Week 1

Well it appears that I have made it through week one at Petersen King with minimal screw ups.  I have to say all the success that I did have I owe to everyone there in the office, they are some of the kindest most understanding people that one could ever hope to work with and for.

I hope that things will continue to get easier in the next few weeks.  The return of the accountant is going to be a great help, she has even helped me a little to dig my way out of the tons and tons of filing that still needs to get done.  Slowly but surely it will all get put away and I’ll be able to see the light at the end of the tunnel.  Also this week I finally got set up with my own user id and email.  I’m now learning PCLaw an application that they use to keep track of just about everything and I can’t wait till I know my way around that as well for I am sure that it will make life easier for the other assistant if I stop asking her so many questions!

I think that there are good times to come, and great things to achieve and in due time I’ll get there.  For now I’ll just be content and happy if I make it through week 2 with even less mishaps! <3
